DirecTV (or Dish Network) and Windows Media Center as DVR?

I want to use a PC with Windows Media Center as a DVR with my DirecTV service but am reading many conflicting opinions about this.

Is it true that you can’t use Media Center with a satellite provider?

Can you control a satellite receiver with a TV tuner card or is that only with Cable?

Can you get the show schedules from the internet for DirecTV freely?

What about HD channels?

Thanks in advance.
