Can you provide the model number of the DVR? As far as HD goes, the switch shouldn't (didn't, for certain) affect any of the over-the-air HD signals. If you could receive, play, and watch HD (through your DVR, presumably) before the switch, you should be able to now. That's why the model number would help. Maybe I can walk you step-by-step through connections and what to do.

Several issues with your idea...

http://tech.dishnetwork.com/departmental_content/TechPortal/content/tech/receiver/rollover/722.shtml

First, I have no idea why you are trying to insert a TV converter box into this setup. I believe it is unnecessary.

Secondly, I'm not to sure of using the coaxial output. It strikes me as similar to using an RF modulator, which is a pretty awful option. I am pretty sure this Home Distribution RF output is for an analog TV and if that is right, there is no need for a converter box. But whatever the case, without the converter, it should work (though I know nothing of your recorder).

However, I can clearly see that you have HDMI, S-video, component video, and composite video outputs for TV1 and composite video output for TV2. I'd guess you want to hook to TV2 and I'd guess that about 99% of them have a composite input, so that connection should work just fine too.

You need a card that can record QAM cable directly, or analog from the box and change its channels.

Correct, there are few choices, largely because of the cost of digital, and that the majority of people are on pay providers and opt to use their DVRs. With the majority of people on pay providers, the "mass" isn't there to bring the cost of digital broadcast DVRs down, nor the desire of manufacturers to make them.

Combo cable/OTA DVRs are even rarer, because practically only TiVo decided to make that leap, which would take some doing.
