Will a satellite DVR work with just basic cable? No more sat but have cable. Can I use the sat DVR?

I have a new digital converter box. No cable/dish connections involved, strictly over the air signal. Its connected fine. I have viewable programming. When using this DMR-ES10 Panasonic DVR, all the channels I can select are in solid whole numbers, example, channel 7, channel 9, etc. Before the digital conversion, you selected channel 7 and recorded. Now, there are sub channels, example, 7.1, 7.2, etc. and no solid channel 7. So my question is, is this DVR obsolete? Is there a way to have it record channel 7.1 and so on? If its on 7, it records fuzz. I hope I've made a good explanation. Thanks ahead of time for any help. ~~John

When I record on my DVR a satellite television program, it is starting to lose the voice and the picture becomes scrambled. This happens about 10 times per recorded hour TV show. This happens on everything I record. I use the major Satellite provider in the USA. It happens on ever recorded TV show, even the local channels (which go through the system).

I have an HD-DVR with satellite now, but would like to load some of the programs from it on to a 2nd dvr for more capacity. I guess if there's an HD-DVR out there with an HDMI input it might work to play off of the receiver on to the 2nd dvr? Has anyone done this? If so, how and what equipment?
I went to BestBuy this weekend and the rep showed me a 500 gig dvr that records 50 hrs HD/200 DV. It connects to the HD receiver through a USB port. He said the menus would tell me how to load the programs. I think I'll wait for prices to drop (or look around) - it sounds good but 0 is a little high. I'd like to see a demo before actually getting one too.
